Congrats to Zekai Fang et al. for the latest publication in J. Am. Chem. Soc. We have developed the first application of a well-defined chiral binuclear copper catalyst in asymmetric CuAAC, achieving highly enantioselective kinetic resolution of alkyne-functionalized azlactones with azides. Both enantiomerically enriched starting azlactones and triazole productscan be readily converted into amino acid or amino alcohol derivatives bearing a chiral quaternary center, highlighting the broad synthetic utility.
